100% Organic gardening has a perception.
The perception is that it’s more expensive and less effective. To put it bluntly, it’s not true.
In some instances, yes it can be correct. However with the increase of prices for high-nitrogen fertilisers, there’s no longer too much in it in terms of price.
When it comes to effectiveness, I’ve had just as much success with organic products as I’ve had with synthetic products.
That’s why I continue to create bespoke organic gardening products to match any of the synthetic options out there.
So, in this article I’m giving you all the benefits of practicing 100% organic gardening.
I’ll also explain which products are best to use and why.
I’ll also include how to fit them all into your ongoing feeding programme.
How are organic gardening products produced?
Organic gardening products are produced in different ways. Some are bi products of the animal industry.
Some are extracted from living organisms – such as seaweed.
Others such as our organic lawn feed is manufactured using plant extracts but turned into 1-3mm granules so they can be spread on the grass easily. These would be the most expensive due to the process they go through to be available on the market.
What are the top benefits of using organic products?
There are several benefits in using organics as your go to option for your garden. From sustainability far and wide to improving your own soil compositions.
Here is an overview of those benefits
- Nutrients aren’t leached from the soil as quickly
- More sustainable
- More eco friendly
- More beneficial to clay-based soils
Which organic gardening products do I recommend most?
The number one organic product is known as Blood, Fish & Bone. It’s most popular because it’s balanced in nutrients and can therefore be used on pretty much any plant to give it a boost.
Bonemeal
Another Bonemeal as a fertiliser. Bonemeal is super high in phosphate. For that reason you shouldn’t use it too often. Usually once or twice a year is sufficient.
It also releases it’s nutrients into the soil over a prolonged time period meaning you get more for your money over a longer time during the growing season.
For me, I usually apply it at the very start of the season so it helps plants to recover their roots after a harsh Winter.
100% Organic Sulphate of Potash
After all, that’s exactly what Phosphate does – it helps the roots to establish in the soil.
The next product you can use is Sulphate of Potash. As the name suggests, it’s extremely high in potassium.
You’ll be shocked when you apply Sulphate of Potash to something like strawberries. The yield is superb and the leaves will flourish.
100% Organic Hoof & Horn
Hoof & Horn is really high in nitrogen and is therefore best used on plants designed to have large, green leaves. Such as Hosta or shrubs. It will deepen the colour, boost growth and make your green garden look fantastic.
Once again, hoof and horn will release it’s nitrogen slowly over the growing season so you really don’t need to use it as much as you would other quicker releasing fertilisers. Saving you both time and money.
